The church of San Bieito (San Benito in Castilian) stands at the corner where the Praza de Fefiñáns meets the main street, its solid granite façade acting as a visual anchor for the whole square. The building is a mix of Baroque and neoclassical elements, as is common in Galician ecclesiastical architecture of the 17th and 18th centuries — the overall impression is sturdy and confident rather than ornate. The square tower is particularly handsome from the far end of the plaza.
The interior is modest but worth a look if the doors are open during visiting hours. The carved stone work around the main portal shows the quality of craftsmanship available in the region during the period of Albariño wealth. The church is still in regular use by the local parish, which means it closes between services — check the schedule posted at the entrance if you want to go inside.
