A genuinely working harbour rather than a marina, with a fleet of small inshore boats that go out for shellfish, octopus, and sardines and come back to the dock around midday. The fish auction (lonja) at the harbour-side market is open to anyone who arrives early enough — Monday to Friday, around 12:30 — and is loud, fast, and theatrical. Restaurant buyers from across Galicia bid against each other for the best catch.
The waterfront promenade along the harbour, Paseo de Beiramar, is lined with seafood restaurants and tapas bars. Most of the boats moored along the harbour wall double as oyster and percebes (goose barnacle) stalls in summer — buy a half-dozen and a glass of Albariño and eat them on the harbour wall.
