O Grove is Galicia's seafood capital and the spirit of the place is the marisco — shellfish — that the bateas (mussel-farming platforms) produce in their thousands across the Ría de Arousa. Most visitors come to eat. But the peninsula also has good beaches on both sides, a working fishing harbour, and the easy excursion to A Toxa Island just across the bridge. The October Festa do Marisco is the social event of the year and the best time to come if you can stand the crowds.
