Camino Portugués

Redondela sits at an important junction on the Camino Portugués, the Portuguese route of the Way of St James, and the town takes its pilgrim traffic seriously. The flechas amarillas (yellow arrows) lead walkers along the old streets beneath the viaducts and through the town centre; stone markers give the distance remaining to Santiago de Compostela.

For non-pilgrims, the section of the Camino through Redondela and on toward Pontevedra makes an excellent day walk. The route follows the ría shore in places, passing through old fishing villages and crossing estuaries on medieval bridges. The path is well-marked, mostly flat through this stretch, and offers some of the greenest, most lush Galician scenery on any Camino route. Walking even a short section gives a sense of why the Portuguese route has become increasingly popular.
