Cemetery of Os Eidos

Redondela's historic municipal cemetery has been voted the most beautiful cemetery in Spain in popular polls — and while that sounds like faint praise, the reality justifies the distinction. The cemetery dates from the 19th century and is laid out on a hillside above the town, with elaborately carved stone monuments, Gothic-influenced chapels, and a collection of sculptural work that amounts to an open-air museum of funerary art.

The symbolism is rich: weeping angels, broken columns, hourglasses, and Galician crosses in the distinctive regional style. The views over the town and the ría from the upper sections are surprisingly good. It is quiet, well-maintained, and genuinely moving — a place that rewards unhurried wandering.
