Santiago de Compostela is a compact medieval city, and its main sights are all within easy walking distance of the cathedral. Most are ecclesiastical — churches, cloisters, pilgrimage-related squares — but there's also a good archaeology museum and the lively Mercado de Abastos market. The old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and best explored on foot.
