Cabreiroá Spa

19th-century thermal spa and bottling plant on the edge of town — the source of Spain's well-known mineral water

A kilometre south of Verín, the springs at Cabreiroá have been bottled commercially since 1906 and the brand is one of the best-known mineral waters in Spain. The original spa pavilion, a 19th-century granite building set in landscaped grounds, has been restored and is open for tours that explain the geology and the bottling process; the bottling plant itself can sometimes be visited by appointment.

The water is naturally carbonated and slightly mineralised — Romans were already exploiting these springs, and the medieval Counts of Monterrei used the spa. Today the grounds are a pleasant park to wander even if you skip the tour, with the spring itself flowing into a small pool that visitors can drink from. Bring an empty bottle.
