Vigo's bar scene is concentrated in two distinct zones. The Casco Vello (old town) on the steep hillside above the port has the most atmospheric traditional bars — stone-walled, narrow, dark, with wine from the barrel and small plates of Galician food. The area around Rúa da Pescadería and Rúa dos Cesteiros is where you want to be in the late afternoon and evening.
The newer bar district around Rúa do Circo and the city centre has a younger crowd and more cocktail bars. Many Vigo bars do not open until 10pm and do not close until 4 or 5am — the Spanish late-night rhythm applies here at full force. On weekends in the Casco Vello, the bar crawl can last until dawn.
