Parque do Castro

The hilltop park above the old town is Vigo's best viewpoint, reached by steep lanes from the Casco Vello. The park sits where a Celtic hill fort (castro) once stood, and the archaeological remains of Iron Age circular stone foundations are visible at the summit — one of several such sites scattered across Galicia.

The main draw is the view: on a clear day you can see across the Ría de Vigo to the hills of Portugal, the Islas Cíes in the Atlantic mouth, and the full sweep of the bay below. The park itself is well maintained with shaded paths, benches, and gardens. In summer it fills with locals escaping the heat; at dusk it is one of the best places in the city to watch the sun set over the Atlantic. The adjacent ruins of the old city walls add to the historic atmosphere.
