A small and undervisited museum in a 19th-century palace house on Calle de San Mateo, furnishing three floors as a period aristocratic residence from the Romantic era. The collection — furniture, portraits, silver, textiles, fans, miniatures — dates from the reign of Ferdinand VII and Isabella II and gives an unusually intimate picture of how the Madrid bourgeoisie actually lived in the 1830s and 1840s.
The garden café is one of the quieter spots in Malasaña for a mid-afternoon coffee. The museum is closed Monday and ticketed; the garden is accessible separately. Metro Alonso Martínez.
