Rostrogordo Pine Forest is Melilla's easy escape from the compact city, a pine-planted recreation area on the higher ground toward the northern edge of the enclave. It is used by locals for picnics, running, and short walks, with the landscape opening toward the sea and the Moroccan hills.
Do not expect a dramatic national park. The pleasure is simpler: shade, quiet, and a different angle on Melilla after the old fortress, modernist streets, and border traffic.
