The Royal and Pontifical Church of the Immaculate Conception is one of the key historic churches inside Melilla la Vieja. Building began in 1657 and continued for decades, with later altars and altarpieces added through the 18th century.
The church is worth including while walking the old fortress town, especially for its surviving side altars and its role in the religious life of the walled city. It pairs naturally with the nearby Plaza de Armas and municipal museum.
