Cave of the Barranc del Migdia

Prehistoric cave discovered in 1989 with palaeolithic remains

This cave, discovered in 1989 during works in the Barranc del Migdia ravine, is one of the archaeologically significant sites in the Jávea area. The cave yielded Palaeolithic remains including animal bones and evidence of human habitation from prehistoric periods, adding to the picture of long human occupation in the Montgó and coastal areas.

The site is not set up for open public visits in the way of a tourist cave, but it is referenced in local archaeology and forms part of the broader picture of prehistoric settlement around the Montgó massif. The Soler Blasco Archaeological Museum in the old town has finds from this and other local sites, and is the best place to see the context of these discoveries.
