Gothenburg's largest art museum sits at the top of the Kungsportsavenyn in a striking neoclassical building. The collection runs from 15th-century Flemish and Dutch masters including Rubens, through 19th-century Danish golden age paintings, to 20th-century Swedish works. A special place is reserved for the "Gothenburg Colorists," a group of west coast painters who in the 1930s developed a distinctive lyrical use of colour.
