Things to Do

Gothenburg has Scandinavia's largest amusement park, a car-free archipelago perfect for island hopping, and enough museums to fill several rainy days.

Liseberg Amusement Park

The largest amusement park in Scandinavia, right in the centre of town. Liseberg has a huge variety of rides and live entertainment including concerts. Open from May to August, with weekends in April, September, and October, and special Christmas events in December. Take tram no. 5.

Slottsskogen (Castle Forest)

A large park with free entry, home to the Natural History Museum, an old observatory, an animal park, a children's zoo, and minigolf. A good spot for a picnic. Trams 1, 2, 7, and 8 go to Slottsskogen.

Island Hopping in the Archipelago

The Gothenburg Archipelago has hundreds of islands with beaches for swimming and sunbathing. Ferries run from central Gothenburg and connect the islands to each other, so you can visit several in a day. No cars are allowed on the islands.

Alvsborgs Fastning Fortress

A 17th-century fortress on a picturesque island, half an hour by boat. The sea views of the archipelago are beautiful, and daily tours of the fortress and its church are offered.

Gunnebo Castle

An 18th-century neoclassical castle just outside the city, with a park, cafe, and restaurant. Easy to reach by bus or taxi.
