Nybro is a working Småland town between Kalmar and Växjö, best understood as one of the practical gateways to Glasriket, the Kingdom of Crystal. Glass, wood, and paper shaped the local economy, and Pukeberg Glassworks keeps that identity visible close to town.
This is not the most romantic stop in Småland, but it has enough personality for a spare day: old glassworks, forest recreation at Svartbäcksmåla, a moose park west of town, and the deeply unlikely 007 Museum.
Use Nybro as a low-key base if you are moving through Småland by train or car. The bigger Glasriket story belongs to the wider region, but Nybro gives it a useful town centre and a few good detours of its own.
