Norrmalm

Norrmalm is Stockholm's bustling commercial center, where the modern city asserts itself with department stores, business towers, and the main transport hub at T-Centralen. Drottninggatan, the long pedestrianized shopping street, runs north from the parliament building and draws crowds day and night. Kungsträdgården, the city's central park, transforms with the seasons — cherry blossoms in spring, outdoor concerts in summer, and an ice rink in winter. The area around Sergels Torg, with its distinctive glass obelisk and sunken plaza, is unmistakably mid-century Swedish modernism and a key landmark for orientation. Beyond the retail surface, Norrmalm has excellent restaurants and the Kulturhuset Stadsteatern arts center. It lacks the charm of Gamla Stan or the edge of Södermalm, but as the place where transit lines converge and practical Stockholm gets things done, you'll inevitably pass through — and there's more here than first meets the eye.
