Götgatan is Södermalm's main commercial spine, running south from Slussen up over the island. Its busiest stretch, the pedestrianised Götgatsbacken, is packed with clothing shops, record stores, design boutiques, cafés, and cheap eats, and it captures the neighbourhood's mix of mainstream retail and independent edge better than anywhere.
Off Götgatan to the east lies SoFo — "south of Folkungagatan" — the grid of streets that is the heart of Södermalm's vintage, design, and café culture, full of small shops and bars worth getting lost in. Götgatan itself is good for people-watching and browsing, and a logical place to start a wander into the quieter SoFo blocks. Busy by day and lively into the evening.
