Monteliusvägen is a narrow cliffside walking path along the northern edge of Södermalm, and it offers the best free panorama in Stockholm. The roughly 500-metre route runs above the water with an uninterrupted view across Riddarfjärden to the spires of Gamla Stan, the City Hall with its golden tower, and Riddarholmen's church. Below the path, old wooden houses and allotment gardens cling to the slope.
It is especially magical at sunset, when the light catches the City Hall and the old town across the water; benches along the way invite you to linger. The path is unpaved and a little uneven in places but easy enough, and it connects naturally to the cafés and viewpoints around Mariaberget and Slussen. Do not leave Södermalm without walking it.
