Visby's social life in summer revolves around its outdoor cafe terraces, particularly on Stora Torget and along the harbour. Fika — Swedish coffee-and-cake culture — is taken seriously here, and the bakeries are excellent.

Try Munkkallaren (Monk's Cellar), in a 13th-century vaulted basement just off Stora Torget — long beer list, good for a late-night stop. Skafferiet is a popular wine bar in a converted merchant's house. In summer, the pop-up bars in Almedalen Park and along the waterfront stay lively until late.
