Champéry's après-ski is modest compared to the larger Portes du Soleil resorts, but it has a genuine village feel rather than a manufactured party atmosphere. The bars along the main street fill up in the early evening after the lifts close, and the crowd is a mix of locals, ski instructors, and guests from the chalets and hotels. In summer the terrace cafes come into their own, with coffee and cake a default activity on days when the afternoon clouds roll in.
