Champéry has two distinct seasons and a quiet shoulder between them.
Winter (December to April) is the main draw, with the Portes du Soleil ski area at full operation. Snow reliability at the village itself (1,050 m) is moderate, but the upper slopes above 2,000 metres hold snow well into spring. January and February tend to have the best snow conditions; March and April offer longer days and sometimes the best visibility, though the snowpack thins at lower altitudes. The Swiss Wall at Pas de Chavanette is at its most spectacular in late season when the moguls have built up.
Summer (late June to September) is increasingly popular. The cable cars run, the trails are open, and the village is quiet compared to winter. July and August bring wildflowers on the high meadows and reliable (if warm) weather. The Dents du Midi trails are at their best in July and August when the high snowfields have retreated. Afternoon thunderstorms are common from July onward — set out early and be back by early afternoon.
Shoulder seasons (May, October–November) are quiet: many businesses close, lifts don't run, and the village slows to a near-halt. Not ideal unless you want solitude and low prices.
