Getting Around

Champéry's village centre is car-free and small enough to walk from end to end in ten minutes. The main street runs the length of the village, with most hotels, restaurants, and shops along it or just off it. There is essentially no reason to use a vehicle once you are here.

The cable car from the village to Planachaux (2,000 m) is the key piece of infrastructure — it takes you out of the valley and onto the plateau from which the entire Portes du Soleil network is accessible. In winter, ski passes cover all lifts across both the Swiss and French sectors. In summer, a day pass or single tickets cover the main cable car and chairlifts that continue to operate for hikers and mountain bikers.

For getting to neighbouring valleys or into France, you need a car or to rely on the valley bus and train services. The Champéry rail station at the village edge connects to Monthey and Aigle, giving onward access to the main Swiss rail network.
