Portes du Soleil Ski Area

The Portes du Soleil ski area is one of the largest linked ski domains in the world, stretching across the Swiss-French border with around 600 km of marked pistes served by 190 lifts. From Champéry, a cable car rises from the village to Planachaux at 2,000 metres, from where the entire domain is accessible. You can spend a week skiing here and not repeat the same run.

The area caters to all levels: long blue cruising runs drop through French pine forests toward Morzine, while above Champéry the terrain gets serious. The Pas de Chavanette — known as the Swiss Wall — is one of the steepest and most famous mogul fields in Europe, sitting directly on the border between Switzerland and France. Expert skiers seek it out specifically; beginners should admire it from the lift above.
