Eating Out

Crans-Montana has an unusually good restaurant scene for a ski resort its size, running from proper Valais regional cooking to Japanese, Italian, and international fine dining. The main concentration is on the Rue du Prado in Crans, but Montana has solid options too, and the mountain restaurants are better than the Alpine average.

For Valais specialties — raclette, fondue, air-dried meat from the Rhône Valley — La Diligence in Montana is the reliable local choice, busy on most evenings and reasonable by resort standards. Restaurant de la Forêt at the edge of Montana is a quieter option with good local cheese and game in season. On the mountain, the self-service and restaurant at Cry d'Er (2,263 m) runs until mid-afternoon and offers a proper cooked meal on a terrace with views; the Merbé mountain restaurant on the Aminona side is a good alternative.

The upscale end in Crans includes L'Atelier Gourmand, a modern Swiss restaurant with market-driven menus and a wine list focused on Valais appellations, and several hotel restaurants in the five-star properties that take reservations for non-guests.
