Eating Out

Gruyères has a concentration of fondue restaurants along the main street that is perhaps unmatched anywhere outside of a Swiss themed park — which is partly what it feels like. That said, the fondue here is the real thing, made with proper Gruyère cheese, and eating a pot of it with a view of the valley is hard to fault. Most restaurants on the main street serve similar menus: fondue, raclette, rosti, and simple grilled meats. The quality is generally decent if not exceptional — this is tourist country and the kitchen knows it. For something more interesting, explore what's down the side alleys or along the lower street.
