Gruyères is a year-round destination, though the experience varies considerably by season. Summer (June–August) brings the most tourists and the best weather for enjoying the outdoor terrace views; arrive early on weekdays to avoid the worst of the crowds, especially on summer weekends. Spring and autumn are arguably the best times: the light on the valley is beautiful, the crowds are manageable, and the hiking on Moléson is excellent without summer heat. Winter is quiet and occasionally magical when there is snow on the rooftops — the restaurants are warm, the crowds almost nonexistent, and the ski slopes on Moléson are close by.
