Gruyères is most easily reached by train from Bulle, a regional hub about 6 kilometres away with direct connections to Fribourg, Lausanne, and Bern. From Bulle, a scenic narrow-gauge railway (TPF) runs to Gruyères station, from which it is a short but steep walk uphill to the medieval town. By car, Gruyères is about 35 kilometres south of Fribourg via the A12 motorway and then cantonal roads — parking is available in the lower village, as no cars are permitted in the old town itself.
