Chalet Eugenia

Chalet Eugenia is a private alpine chalet in the northern part of Klosters that became famous as the favoured Swiss retreat of the British royal family, particularly Prince Charles (now King Charles III), who first visited in the early 1980s. The chalet sits on the edge of the village, looking south toward the ski runs, and is not open to the public, but it draws visitors curious about its royal connections.

The association between the British royals and Klosters long predates Chalet Eugenia — the village has been fashionable with wealthy British visitors since the 1930s. Charles's decades of loyalty to the resort helped keep Klosters firmly on the international map even as nearby Davos expanded and modernised. The village's quiet character and strong local identity appear to be precisely what keeps distinguished guests returning year after year.

A story
Chalet Eugenia became one of the most photographed buildings in the Alps after a 1988 press photograph showed Prince Charles skiing with Princess Diana outside its door. Charles has returned to Klosters almost every winter since, staying at the chalet or nearby, and the press pack following him gave the village a level of publicity no tourist board could have bought.
