The Sunniberg Bridge spans the Landquart river valley just west of Klosters on a long, elegant curve. Designed by the renowned Swiss structural engineer Christian Menn and completed in 1998, it carries the Klosters bypass road and is considered one of the most beautiful highway bridges in the world. The International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering has recognised it as an outstanding structure.
The best view is from the valley floor, looking up at the low, outward-flaring cable stays that fan from the slender pylons above the road deck. Unlike most cable-stayed bridges, where the towers dominate, Menn's design keeps everything low and unassuming — the pylons only slightly exceed the road surface, giving the whole structure an almost weightless quality against the mountain backdrop. A footpath below the bridge connects the valley to the village and makes for a pleasant half-hour walk.
