A bronze statue of Freddie Mercury stands on the lakefront promenade in central Montreux, arm outstretched toward the lake and the Alps beyond. It has become one of the most photographed spots in Switzerland. Mercury lived in Montreux for the last years of his life, and the town has embraced its connection to him with genuine warmth rather than tourist-trap cynicism.
A few steps away, the Mountain Studios exhibition inside the Casino building tells the story of Queen's years in Montreux in more detail. The statue itself is simple and imposing — at three metres tall, it dominates the promenade. Sunset is the best time: the light catches the bronze against the lake and the mountains turn pink behind. Free and always accessible.
