Stoosbahn

The Stoosbahn climbs from the valley south of Schwyz to the car-free mountain village of Stoos. Its steep gradient and unusual cabins make the ride feel like a piece of Swiss engineering theatre.

Once at the top, continue to the ridge walks above Stoos if the weather is good. The railway is fun on its own, but the views towards Lake Lucerne are the real reason to go.

A story
The modern Stoosbahn uses rotating barrel-shaped cabins so passengers stay level while the track climbs at an extraordinary angle. It has become an attraction in itself, not just a way to reach the car-free village of Stoos.
