Lenk Ski Resort

Lenk-Simmental is the valley's main winter resort, sitting at the head of the valley at around 1,068 metres. Connected since 2009 to Adelboden via the Hahnenmoos Pass, the combined ski area offers about 210 kilometres of marked runs. The skiing is best suited to intermediates — there are long blue and red cruisers across both sides of the pass, and the piste-grooming is reliable. Expert skiers will find less to push them than at Verbier or Saas-Fee, but at a fraction of the price.

Summer in Lenk is arguably better than winter for those who are not specifically there to ski. The high pastures above the village — Metschstand, Betelberg — are excellent for hiking, and the cable cars run through the summer season. The Iffigenalp, reached by a short bus ride from Lenk, is one of the prettier alpine cirques in the Bernese Oberland: a broad green valley ringed by rock faces, largely free of development.

The village itself is honest and functional rather than glamorous. There are no five-star hotels and no designer boutiques, which keeps it affordable. The quieter off-season (May–June, October–November) takes the valley back to its agricultural roots, when you may have whole trails to yourself.

A story
Lenk and the neighbouring Adelboden ski area were connected by a cross-valley lift link in 2009, doubling the skiable terrain overnight. The two resorts had been rivals for decades; the merger was partly brokered by Swiss Tourism as a condition for regional marketing support.
