The James Joyce Foundation in Zurich's Old Town is one of the foremost Joyce research centres in the world. Housed in a building close to where Joyce lived during his wartime years in the city, it holds an extensive archive of Joycean scholarship, a specialist library, and runs an annual Bloomsday celebration on 16 June that is among the best outside Dublin.
The Foundation organises regular public readings of Ulysses — the famous Zürich Ulysses readings have been running for decades and attract participants from across Europe. Scholars and serious readers are welcome to use the library; the public lectures and readings are open to all. If you are visiting Zurich with any interest in Joyce, this is the place to start.
