St. Peter's Church

Zurich's oldest church with Europe's largest clock face

Address St. Peterhofstatt, 8001 Zurich

Zurich's oldest parish church, first documented in the 9th century, though the current building dates mostly from the 13th and 18th centuries. The main draw is the clock face added in 1534 -- at 8.7 metres in diameter, it's the largest in Europe. The interior is a surprise: bright, white, and almost ballroom-like, with elegant stucco work that feels more Baroque palace than medieval church.

The church sits on the quiet St. Peterhofstatt square between Lindenhof and the Rathaus, an easy stop while walking through the old town. Open Monday to Friday 8am--6pm, Saturday 8am--4pm.
