The Russian Church, formally the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin, is one of central Chernivtsi's older religious landmarks. Its name comes from the old Ruthenian community rather than modern Russia, and it adds another layer to the city's mix of Ukrainian, Austrian, Jewish, Romanian, and Orthodox histories.
