Simferopol is the administrative capital of Crimea, but most travellers experience it briefly between trains and buses on their way to the coast. A half-day in town will cover the old Tatar quarter around the Kebir-Jami mosque, the Scythian ruins on the eastern edge, and an art museum or two; everything else is in the surrounding countryside or on the southern coast.
