This compact Armenian Apostolic church in the center of Yalta is dedicated to Saint Hripsime, an early Christian martyr. The current building dates from 1916 and replaced an earlier structure on the same site. Armenia has a long history in Crimea — Armenian merchants and traders settled along the Black Sea coast from the medieval period, and Yalta's Armenian community was substantial by the 19th century.
The church is architecturally notable for its traditional Armenian cross-stone (khachkar) carvings and its stone construction, which stands out against the predominantly Orthodox and secular buildings of central Yalta. Services are still held here by the small Armenian community. The church is usually open to visitors during the day and the interior, while modest in scale, has an atmosphere quite distinct from the Russian Orthodox churches nearby.
