Eating Out

Pre-war Donetsk had a restaurant scene shaped by its industrial wealth and its position between Ukrainian and Russian culinary traditions. Ukrainian staples — borscht, varenyky, holubtsi — sat alongside Russian dishes and a growing number of European-style restaurants catering to business travellers and the city's expanding middle class. The central area around Teatralna Square and Artyoma Street had the densest concentration of options.
