Kyiv has one of the deepest and best metro systems in the former Soviet world — three lines (red, blue, green) running roughly every 60 seconds during peak hours and serving most central districts. Stations are clearly signed in both Ukrainian and English, and a single ride is cheap. The Arsenalna station, on the red line, is the deepest in the world at 105 metres below ground.
Above ground, trolleybuses, trams, and marshrutkas (privately-run minibuses) fill the gaps. A funicular climbs the steep slope between Podil and the Upper Town and is worth taking once for the view alone. Taxis and rideshare apps (Bolt, Uklon) are inexpensive.
Central Kyiv is walkable but hilly — the climbs from Podil up to the Upper Town are steep enough to slow you down. Khreshchatyk is closed to traffic at weekends and becomes the city's promenade.
