The country's main collection of Western and Eastern art, in the former private residence of the industrialist Bohdan Khanenko and his wife Varvara. Their nineteenth-century house on Tereshchenkivska Street holds Italian Renaissance painting, Dutch Golden Age work, Byzantine icons, and a sizeable Asian wing — Persian miniatures, Tang ceramics, Edo period prints.
The Sinai icon collection is the museum's claim to international standing. After 2022 some works were moved to safer storage; check what is on view before going.
