The country's main history museum, on Volodymyrska Street just behind Saint Andrew's Church. Displays cover Ukraine from the Stone Age through Scythian gold, Kyivan Rus, the Cossack era, and into the 20th century. The collection is enormous; most visitors do about an hour and a half.
The basement contains the Museum of Historic Treasures — the famous Scythian gold pieces, including the Pectoral of Tovsta Mohyla. Since 2022 some of these have been moved for safekeeping; check what is on display before going.
