Besarabsky Market

The covered market at the southern end of Khreshchatyk, in a striking 1912 glass-and-steel hall built in the Art Nouveau industrial style. It is the central market of Kyiv and has been continuously trading since opening: meat, fish, cheeses, pickles, salo (cured pork fat), Crimean honey, fruit, flowers.

Prices are higher than at the outer city markets — this is the central, slightly touristy, version — but the produce is good and the building is worth a visit on its own. The flower section near the entrance is a Kyiv social institution.
