Getting Around

The historic centre of Poltava is compact and best explored on foot. The Poltava Round — the circular garden at the convergence of eight radial avenues — is the natural starting point, and most of the major sights are within a 15-minute walk from it. The battlefield museum is about 5 km south of the centre, accessible by taxi or marshrutka (minibus). Marshrutky (shared minibuses) cover most of the city on fixed routes and are the main form of public transport. Taxis are inexpensive by European standards and can be booked via apps.
