Poltava's sights are concentrated in the historic centre and at the battlefield south of town. The city's radial street plan — the famous Poltava Round — was laid out in 1802 with eight streets fanning out from a central circular garden, and walking it is an attraction in itself. The Column of Glory at the centre is the natural starting point. From there, most of the major churches and museums are within easy walking distance.
