Derby has a temperate English climate with no dramatic seasonal extremes. Summer (June–August) is the most pleasant for walking the Derwent Valley, and the city comes alive with outdoor events. The Derby Folk Festival in October is one of the best folk music gatherings in England, drawing performers from across the country.
Winter is quieter, but the indoor attractions — the museum, the Silk Mill, the cathedral — are just as good in grey weather. Avoid the weeks around major Derby County home fixtures if you want a quieter city centre.
