Berney Marshes sits out in the open Broadland landscape west of Great Yarmouth, where wet grazing land meets the mud and saltmarsh of Breydon Water. It is an RSPB reserve for big skies and birds rather than visitor-centre comfort: redshank and lapwing in spring, and huge winter flocks of wildfowl and waders when the estuary fills with life.
The remoteness is part of the point. There is no road access or car park; you arrive by train to Berney Arms, by public footpath from Great Yarmouth or Reedham, or by boat on the River Yare. Wear footwear for mud and wind, and treat it as a proper walk.
