A Tudor and Georgian country house on the south edge of the town centre, built into the remains of a 14th-century Carmelite (White Friars) priory dissolved by Henry VIII in 1538. Most of what stands now is the 18th-century rebuild, but the original cloister wall and a section of the medieval priory church survive in the south range.
The house is now a private hotel and events venue, but the surrounding Priory Park — landscaped in the 1770s by Capability Brown — is freely open to the public and a pleasant 15-minute detour from the town centre.
