The Great Hospital

The Great Hospital is a medieval almshouse founded in the 13th century, tucked close to Norwich Cathedral and the River Wensum. It is still an institution rather than a normal museum, which is part of what makes it interesting: the buildings have kept a living civic use for centuries.

Access is limited, usually through pre-booked guided tours, so check dates before making a special trip. When tours are running, it adds a quieter layer to Norwich's medieval story beyond the cathedral and castle.
