Norwich rewards slow exploration. The medieval street plan is largely intact, 32 medieval churches survive (more than any other city in northern Europe), and the lanes of the old city centre are compact enough to cover on foot. The castle, cathedral, market, and Strangers' Hall are the cornerstones; the Norwich Lanes neighbourhood fills the gaps with independent shops and cafes.
